To apply for an Alderney eGambling licence, an operator must apply to the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) through an Alderney-registered company. The process includes submitting a formal application, supporting documentation and an initial investigation deposit, followed by AGCC due diligence and operational approvals.
Application process
- Incorporate an Alderney company
A full eGambling licence application must be made in the name of an Alderney-registered company. The applicant must also publish a notice of the application in the Alderney Gazette. - Prepare and submit the application
Submit the completed and signed AGCC eGambling Licence Application Form, all relevant appendices and supporting documents, together with the initial investigation deposit of £10,000. The AGCC makes the relevant application forms available in PDF and Word formats. - Attend the AGCC meeting
After receiving the application, the AGCC’s Director of Regulatory Operations will arrange a meeting to discuss the business plan, proposed gambling activities, group structure, executives, business associates and third-party software providers. - Complete due diligence
The AGCC assesses the application under its regulatory criteria. Certain owners, directors, senior executives and other relevant persons may need to apply for Key Individual Certificates, while relevant suppliers or associates may require their own approvals or certificates. - Pay the licence fee
If the application is approved, the licence is issued once the applicable licence fee has been paid. In addition to the £10,000 initial deposit, fee levels depend on the licence category and circumstances of the applicant. - Obtain pre-launch approvals
Before going live, the licensee must obtain AGCC approval for its Internal Control System (ICS), gambling equipment and capitalisation. For the ICS, the AGCC requires a separate approval application and a £10,000 deposit; gambling-equipment approval requires a separate application and a £5,000 deposit. - Receive authorisation to launch
Once the AGCC is satisfied with the operational controls, equipment and financial position, it issues a letter approving the business to commence commercial operations.
For UK-facing operators
An Alderney licence does not by itself authorise a business to offer gambling to consumers in Great Britain. A UK Gambling Commission operating licence is normally required where remote gambling is offered or advertised to customers in Great Britain.
